Senior Accountant - Housing

Responsibilities

• Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
• Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, equities, revenues and expenditures, and prepares balance sheets, income statements, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected City financial position for other managers.
• Maintains detailed and accurate documentation as it relates to the general ledger account balances for all Housing and Community Development Funds for internal and external audits.
• Prepares documentation and schedules for annual audit and responds to auditor requests.
• Assists with the preparation of the SEFA.
• Supports compliance with grant requirements, including CDBG, HOME, and HOPWA programs.
• Researches and resolves any discrepancies for all assigned funds and accounts.
• Compiles and maintains information for CDBG, HOME, and HOPWA grant reimbursements.
• Records revenue and expenditures related to assigned Housing and Community Development funds.
• Ensures grant funds are being spent in a timely manner according to HUD requirements.
• Conducts yearly financial monitoring of grant sub-recipients.
• Participates in special projects when needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in accounting or a related field; and a minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

Schedule

May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule necessary to meet the City’s needs.
