About the Role

HPI is seeking a Senior Property Accountant. The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for key financial information by preparing multiple sets of financial statements and reconciling accounts. This position is an essential role at HPI and will assist the company’s accounting department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide key financial information by preparing multiple sets of financial statements and reports monthly to clients; balancing cash accounts, reconciling and rolling forward balance sheet accounts, ensuring proper coding of income and expense items.
  • Ensure proper business and accounting controls are in place and being followed.
  • Provide additional support to the accounting team and to clients.
  • Work on more advanced projects based on education and experience to help support the Controller and global team, including acquisition and set-up of new business and dispositions, distribution schedules, capital schedules, tax support to CPAs, etc.
  • Work with HPI Property Management Division Team on Property Management Accounting, including monthly journal entries, financial statements, schedules, and other various reports.
  • Balance cash accounts and prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support cash projections, distributions, etc.
  • Prepare monthly loan draws when required.
  • Set up newly acquired properties and support sale processes.
  • Initiate correspondence with the bank as necessary, ensure bills and loans are paid on time.
  • Ensure tax entries are booked and work with Director of Tax.
  • Handle special projects requested by Controller and COO.
  • Review other team members’ work.
  • Complete other projects requested by management and customers.

Requirements

  • 3-10 years of accounting work experience; real estate accounting experience highly preferred.
  • BBA in Accounting or higher preferred; CPA License preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting and other typical accounting methods, and Internal Controls/Audit.
  • Excellent customer service skills, both internally and externally.
  • Accuracy and ability to meet deadlines are critical.
  • Proficiency in Accounting/Property Management Software (Yardi, MRI, Skyline), Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to function in a leadership role on projects and for a particular portfolio.
  • Strong multitasking abilities.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication.
  • Filing and organizational skills.
  • Critical thinking for more advanced projects.
