About the role

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to lead Hardware Server Platform development and delivery for Azure’s cloud technologies and services. You will build cross-team partnerships to transform new hardware concepts into scalable solutions for Microsoft’s Cloud ("Concept to Live"). This role is pivotal in driving Azure’s explosive growth and innovation, connecting people, services, and devices globally.

SCHIE powers Microsoft’s "Intelligent Cloud" mission, delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for over 200 online businesses, including Office 365, Bing, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and Azure cloud services (AI, compute, storage, and networking).

Responsibilities

  • Lead a virtual team of functional leads (hardware/software engineering, sourcing, supply chain, networking, and datacenter operations) to document a clear Plan-of-Record (POR) and drive project milestones.
  • Provide technical program management for new Cloud hardware development, including planning, execution, and cross-functional product launch strategy.
  • Identify technical risks and collaborate with internal/external partners to form cohesive development plans.
  • Ensure in-depth understanding of product technical requirements, milestones, deliverables, and interdependencies for accurate project infrastructure.
  • Leverage engineering skills to solve problems, fill gaps, and achieve objectives through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Communicate and escalate risks/dependencies, ensuring timely decision-making and accountability for team deliverables.
  • Conduct risk management for new product introduction, including scenario planning and mitigation.
  • Interact with senior management to highlight risks and provide recommendations for product-level decisions.
  • Operate effectively in ambiguity, applying or designing processes where needed to drive clarity and alignment.
  • Track development milestones and readiness for datacenter infrastructure launch and deployment.
  • Use program management tools to ensure stakeholder alignment on the program plan of record.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 4+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check (required every two years).

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience leading technical HW + SW projects from requirements through launch, including complex project schedules and roadblock removal.
  • Supplier management experience with ODMs, SIs, and IHVs.
  • 3+ years of experience providing executive-level communications and program updates.
  • Ability to partner with cross-functional teams to define, prioritize, and implement features, infrastructure, processes, and workflows.
  • Experience creating and operationalizing processes to meet business goals.
  • Coaching and enabling Program Managers within the team and partner organizations.
  • Monitoring and measuring engineering impact via key performance indicators.
  • Strong technical design, problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
  • Proven experience shipping high-quality products and services.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, assess opportunities, and drive issues to closure with a high-quality bar.

Pay

The typical base pay range for this role in the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. For the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the range is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and additional compensation.
