Senior Field Technician
Actalent supports field testing, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical power equipment in a hands-on, field-based role.
About the role
This position works extensively with low, medium, and high voltage equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, grounding systems, instrument transformers, and related electrical apparatus. The role requires regular travel, overtime, strong safety awareness, and a desire to grow within electrical testing and power systems, with a clear path toward NETA certification.
Responsibilities
- Travel locally and regionally to customer sites to perform electrical testing, inspection, and maintenance work on power systems and equipment.
- Assist with testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, cleaning, and maintaining electrical power equipment in a variety of field environments.
- Work safely around low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems, following all safety policies and procedures.
- Support testing on equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motors, potential transformers (PTs), coupling capacitor voltage transformers (CCVTs), current transformers (CTs), and related apparatus.
- Use and learn specialized electrical testing equipment, including Ductor testers, Hi-Pot testers, power factor testing equipment, and ratio/saturation testing equipment.
- Read and interpret manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to support troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
- Document test results, maintenance work, repairs, and field findings accurately and in a timely manner.
- Identify potential hazards on job sites, communicate issues to the crew lead or Sr technician, and participate actively in job site safety meetings and practices.
- Interact professionally with customers on site, representing the company in a courteous and knowledgeable manner.
- Continue developing technical knowledge and skills with the goal of progressing toward NETA certification and higher technical responsibility.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in the electrical power, utility, industrial, electrical contractor, or related field environment.
- Hands-on experience working with electrical systems, electrical equipment, or power distribution equipment.
- Experience with electrical testing, commissioning, or maintenance of power systems and equipment.
- Comfort working in the field approximately 95% of the time, including travel and overtime as needed.
- Strong safety awareness and ability to work around low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- NETA certification or experience equivalent to NETA certification.
- Professional communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
- Ability to accurately document test results, maintenance work, and field observations.
Qualifications
- Existing NETA certification at any level is highly valued.
- Experience working in data center environments is a plus.
- Interest in pursuing NETA certification and advancing through NETA levels.
- Willingness to participate in recurring training and classes 2–3 times per year for NETA certification preparation.
- Motivation to grow within electrical testing and power systems and to take on increasing technical responsibility over time.
Work Environment
This is a field-based role with approximately 95% of the time spent at customer sites performing hands-on work with electrical power equipment. The position is ideally based in Nashville, Tennessee, with flexibility to sit in Murfreesboro, Clarksville, or Cookeville, TN. The work involves travel to local and regional sites, with a company card provided for hotels and per diem when traveling. A company vehicle and gas card are provided for field work.
The role includes working around low, medium, and high voltage equipment in industrial, utility, and related environments, often requiring the use of specialized testing equipment such as Ductor testers, Hi-Pot testers, power factor testers, and ratio/saturation testing tools. The company provides a cellphone and laptop to support field operations and reporting.
Personal protective equipment support includes an annual boot allowance, an annual allowance for prescription safety goggles if needed, and an annual allowance with a fire-retardant clothing provider to obtain appropriate flame-resistant clothing. The environment emphasizes safety, continuous training, and professional development, including 2–3 classes per year for NETA certification preparation and structured pay increases and bonuses tied to achieving NETA Level II, III, and IV accreditation.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
