Responsibilities

  • Leads and independently performs complex field engineering and technical activities, including equipment inspections, startup and commissioning support, fabrication progress evaluations, vendor and supplier site audits, construction inspections, field verification measurements, site assessments, troubleshooting, and comprehensive data collection efforts.
  • Serves as a technical lead in the field by coordinating with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and operational objectives.
  • Performs operations and maintenance (O&M) of various types of environmental treatment equipment including pumps, filters, tanks, pressure vessels, and other types of process unit operations.
  • Poses a general understanding of system hydraulics, mechanical operation/functionality and instrumentation/electrical control schemes.
  • Supports fabrication activities, as well as hands-on set-up of bench and pilot testing equipment.
  • Executes piping/skid fabrication in the shop and field, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical system issues or failures.
  • Captures samples using a variety of sampling methods and operates field monitoring equipment including but not limited to: PID/FID, pH, EC, DO, GEM, turbidity, water level, and LEL meters.
  • Makes measurements and records treatment operational data by carefully documenting monitoring and testing results on field forms and prepares field daily reports and data sheets.
  • Conducts field monitoring, sampling, testing, and basic evaluations; maintains chain-of-custody documentation and regulatory sample handling protocols; and records inspection data in electronic spreadsheets and reports.
  • Ensures proper labeling and handling of hazardous material and waste.
  • Communicates promptly with Project Managers and various stakeholders to inform of site conditions and activities.
  • Interacts with clients acting as a front-line representative of the company, presents a professional appearance, and wears appropriate PPE on job sites.
  • Participates in the company’s continuous improvement programs and provides support to team efforts.
  • Keeps up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience performing mechanical/electrical troubleshooting, environmental collection, monitoring, sampling, testing and basic evaluation.
  • A valid Class C driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation for travel to project and job sites.
  • NFPA70E Training or willingness to complete.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds such as monitoring equipment and tools, with or without assistance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to deliver and receive electronic documents.
  • To interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Solid organization and time/project management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, must have legible handwriting.
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated).

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with supervision of construction projects.
  • Background in electrical, plumbing or other mechanical trades. Electrical background preferred.
  • Competence in HVAC, mechanical and electrical.
  • Ability to operate systems via PLC SCADA.
  • Associate’s Degree in Environmental Studies from an accredited university or a technical certification.

Benefits

The annual compensation range for this role is $80,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location. This position is based in Portland, ME.
