About the role
Azenta Life Sciences is seeking an experienced Senior Facilities Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for facilities services across one or more Azenta Life Sciences locations. This role will be responsible for leading site facilities strategy, building operations, vendor and contractor management, capital and maintenance projects, regulatory and safety compliance, budget planning, and team development. The Senior Facilities Manager will serve as a key site leader and cross-functional partner, ensuring that lab, office, and operational environments are safe, compliant, reliable, cost-effective, and aligned with business needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead facilities strategy and day-to-day operations for assigned site(s), including lab, office, utility, building infrastructure, security, space planning, maintenance, and workplace services.
- Ensure facilities operations are compliant with applicable safety, environmental, quality, OSHA, building code, and company requirements, including required documentation, inspections, corrective actions, and recordkeeping in partnership with QA, EHS, and site leadership.
- Oversee hard and soft services, including security, cleaning, waste disposal, equipment and appliance maintenance, building repairs, and emergency response coordination to minimize disruption to employees, customers, and critical business operations.
- Own maintenance, repair, and lifecycle planning for facility infrastructure, including electrical systems, fire prevention and life safety systems, personnel safety, security, parking, environmental systems, plumbing, HVAC, utilities, and other critical building systems.
- Oversee site testing and monitoring programs such as emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, showers and eyewash stations, generators, temperature monitoring systems, and other critical facility systems, ensuring timely response, escalation, and maintenance in coordination with QA and site stakeholders.
- Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate facilities personnel, while building a culture of accountability, safety, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve facilities standard operating procedures, preventive maintenance practices, emergency response processes, and site service standards.
- Develop and manage facilities budgets, forecasts, capital planning, repair and maintenance spend, vendor costs, and project financials, identifying opportunities for cost control, risk reduction, and operational improvement.
- Plan and execute facility projects, renovations, moves, expansions, infrastructure upgrades, and business continuity activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and with minimal disruption to operations.
- Serve as the primary facilities point of contact for site leadership, internal stakeholders, external vendors, landlords, contractors, and service providers, providing clear communication, performance updates, and timely resolution of issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- 10-12+ years of progressive facilities management experience, including leadership responsibility in office, lab, manufacturing, life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or similarly regulated environments.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute facilities plans using drawings, diagrams, maintenance manuals, schematics, building documentation, and technical specifications.
- Strong working knowledge of MEP systems, critical building infrastructure, preventive maintenance programs, building automation systems, access control, and facilities compliance requirements; GMP/GLP environment experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, state and local building codes, life safety requirements, environmental and safety practices, and applicable quality or regulatory requirements; OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification, CFM, PMP, or related facilities certification preferred.
- 5-7+ years of experience managing corporate property, real estate, landlord relationships, vendor contracts, construction projects, or facilities service providers preferred.
- Broad experience across leasing, construction, engineering, utilities, maintenance, space planning, project management, and property operations preferred.
- Ability to serve as a senior site leader for short-term and long-term infrastructure strategies that support business continuity, operational growth, employee experience, and site readiness.
- Strong leadership, technical, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive accountability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical, financial, compliance, and operational information clearly to site leadership and business partners.
- Strong computer and systems knowledge, including building management systems, access control systems, work order or computerized maintenance management systems, Microsoft Office, and facilities reporting tools.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Site-based role located in South Plainfield, NJ
- Occasional travel, including international, may be required (not expected to be more than 10%)
Pay
United States Base Compensation: $138,000.00 - $172,000.00. The posted pay range for this position is an estimate based on current market data and internal pay structure. Final compensation may vary above or below this range depending on factors such as experience, education (including licensure and certifications), qualifications, performance, and geographic location, among other relevant business or organizational needs.
