About the role

Leidos is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer in the Allentown, PA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. You'll work directly with clients to ensure high-quality project delivery and maintain Leidos' reputation for excellence. This role offers opportunities to gain expertise in NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.

This position has remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Eastern, PA. The selected candidate will be expected to attend in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Pennsylvania as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
  • Develop work packages for overhead (OH), underground (UG), underground residential distribution (URD), and Make Ready using customer GIS and work management systems such as EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work, including planning and customer follow-up.
  • Perform scope analysis and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
  • Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes to drive efficiency and high-quality standards in client design deliverables.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements.
  • Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
  • Develop work permits, easements, and right-of-way (ROW) applications.
  • Collect field data through local or regional customer-site visits to assist in developing work packages.
  • Provide estimated costs, develop bills of materials (BOM), and calculate contributions in aid of construction (CIAC).
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for design projects.
  • Uptrain entry-level resources and create process documents.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience, either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; must hold or be able to obtain licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
  • Ability to provide reliable transportation for local or regional customer-related travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult.
  • Familiarity with work management and job estimating software.
  • CAD or MicroStation experience for electrical distribution design.
  • High-level organization and project management skills.

Pay

Pay Range: $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered include responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreements, or other law.
