Senior Distribution Engineer

We're seeking a passionate Senior Distribution Engineer in the Allentown, PA area to ensure every project—simple or complex—meets exceptional quality standards. You'll work directly with clients to maintain Leidos' reputation for high-quality work and gain expertise in areas such as NESC, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design training, field data collection, and client design standards.

About the Role

This position offers remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Eastern, PA to support our local utility customer. The selected candidate will be expected to attend in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Pennsylvania as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
• Develop work packages for overhead (OH), underground (UG), underground residential distribution (URD), and Make Ready using customer GIS and WMS systems such as EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo.
• Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work, including planning and customer follow-up.
• Perform scope analysis and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
• Drive continuous improvement in workflow processes to enhance efficiency and quality in client design deliverables.
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements.
• Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
• Develop work permits, easements, and right-of-way (ROW) applications.
• Work in both field and office settings, including local or regional customer-site visits to collect field data for work package development.

Requirements

• 4+ years of prior relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution.
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; must hold or be able to obtain licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
• Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
• Ability to provide reliable transportation for local or regional customer-related travel (job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience providing estimated costs, developing bills of materials (BOM), and calculating Contributions in Aid of Construction (CIAC).
• Proficiency with design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult.
• Experience with work management software and job estimating software.
• CAD or MicroStation experience for electrical distribution design.
• Experience in Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for design projects.
• High-level organization and project management skills.
• Ability to mentor entry-level resources and create process documents.

Pay

Pay Range: $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreements, or other legal requirements.
