Senior Distribution Engineer

We’re seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer in the Allentown, PA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering and dedicated to ensuring exceptional quality on every project.
About the role
You’ll work directly with clients to maintain Leidos’ reputation for high-quality work while gaining expertise in areas such as NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. This position offers remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Eastern, PA to support our local utility customer as needed. Occasional in-person meetings and assignments throughout Pennsylvania will be required.
Responsibilities
- Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
- Develop work packages for overhead (OH), underground (UG), underground residential distribution (URD), and Make Ready using customer GIS and WMS systems such as EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo.
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work, including planning and customer follow-up.
- Perform scope analysis and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
- Drive continuous improvement in workflow processes to enhance efficiency and quality in client design deliverables.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements.
- Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
- Develop work permits, easements, and right-of-way (ROW) applications.
- Conduct field data collection through local or regional customer-site visits to support work package development.
- Provide estimated costs, develop bills of materials (BOM), and calculate contributions in aid of construction (CIAC).
- Perform Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for design projects.
- Mentor entry-level resources and create process documents.
Requirements
- 4+ years of prior relevant experience, either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; must hold or be able to obtain licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
- Ability to provide reliable transportation for local or regional customer-related travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult.
- Familiarity with work management and job estimating software.
- CAD or MicroStation experience for electrical distribution design.
- High-level organization and project management skills.

Pay
Pay Range: $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreements, or other law.
