About the role
The Senior Director of Development, Major Giving serves as the lead major gifts officer for assigned colleges or units at Ohio University, working within University Advancement to build and manage a robust portfolio of prospective major donors.
Responsibilities
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit individual, corporate, and foundation prospects
- Develop strategic development plans
- Collaborate with internal teams such as Gift Planning, Annual Giving, and Corporate and Foundation Relations
- Manage development travel
- Organize key events
- Foster alumni engagement
- Advance unit-specific and university-wide philanthropic goals
- Act as a strategic advisor and liaison between academic/unit leadership and potential supporters
- Align development priorities with university and unit strategic plans
- Coordinate proposal development and cultivation activities
- Oversight relationships with faculty, staff, and external relations personnel
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 10 years of successful fundraising experience, including major gift and/or corporate giving
- Proven track record of building and managing major donor portfolios
- Experience in higher education and familiarity with Ohio University’s mission and strategic initiatives
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong organizational and project management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
