The Impact You’ll Have
- Earnings & Disclosure: Lead preparation of all quarterly earnings materials — press releases, earnings supplements, CFO/CEO scripts, and Q&A — with the rigor of an operator and the polish of a communicator.
- Investor Engagement: Serve as the company’s primary spokesperson with institutional investors and sell-side analysts. Own the investor conference strategy and calendar and investor day planning.
- Equity Story & Messaging: Partner with the CFO and CEO to develop and continuously refine Marqeta’s long-term investment thesis, messaging frameworks, and forward-looking financial narratives.
- Shareholder Relations: Build and maintain deep, relationship-driven coverage across long-only funds, hedge funds, and index/passive holders. Lead 13F analysis and proactive outreach aligned to Marqeta’s strategic milestones.
- Board & Executive Reporting: Provide board-level reporting on shareholder composition, activist monitoring, peer benchmarking, and market sentiment. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on how the market is interpreting Marqeta’s results and strategy.
- Competitive Intelligence: Monitor the payments and fintech landscape, synthesizing sell-side research and peer disclosures into actionable intelligence for senior leadership.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner closely with FP&A, Legal, Accounting, and Corporate Communications to ensure consistency and accuracy across all investor-facing materials and public disclosures.
- IR Function Development: Evaluate and implement processes, tools, and systems to professionalize and scale the IR function as the company grows, leveraging AI to enhance efficiency.
Who You Are
- Finance, economics, accounting, or related degree, with MBA or CFA noted as a plus.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in investor relations, equity research, investment banking, FP&A, or institutional investing — with a meaningful IR track record at a publicly traded company.
- Demonstrated experience as a finance athlete: someone who moves fluidly between financial modeling, narrative development, and executive-level communication.
- Familiarity with payments, fintech, or transaction-based business models
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex financial and technical concepts into clear, investor-grade language.
- Strong command of equity valuation methodologies, capital markets dynamics, and institutional investor behavior.
- Track record of building productive relationships with buy-side investors and sell-side analysts at a publicly traded company.
- High EQ, executive presence, and the gravitas to engage credibly with the Board, senior leadership, and the investment community.
- Proven ability to operate with discretion, independence, and sound judgment in a fast-moving, high-accountability environment.
- Bay Area based or willing to relocate; this role requires in-person engagement and regular travel.
