Responsibilities

  • Define global market research priorities, together with Commercial Planning Therapeutic Area Leads, proactively identifying upcoming business decisions and plans to inform them
  • Conduct primary research: Develop qualitative (e.g., IDI) and quantitative (e.g., conjoint) market research surveys for use with physicians, patients, and payers
  • Work with 3rd-party agencies to determine appropriate methodology, ensure project alignment to business objectives, and guide execution and reporting
  • Analyze survey results to understand data, key market insights, and implications for Gilead
  • Conduct secondary research: Analyze secondary data sources (e.g., script data, epidemiology data) to produce summaries, and insights/implications
  • Evaluate potential new secondary data sources, rationalize against array of data sources currently used by Gilead
  • Develop and maintain long-term (10-year) forecast models for marketed and pipeline products, including forecasts of epidemiology, competitive market, price, revenue
  • Collaborate with Regional Market Sciences, Literature Resources, Competitive Intelligence, R&D, Pricing and Market Access and Marketing/Sales leads to identify and include quality data assumptions into forecasting models
  • Carry out base-case and scenario modeling using long-term models to support decision-making by Commercial, R&D, Corporate Development, Finance, and Corporate executive leadership, conduct scenario analyses as needed
  • Work with regional Market Research group to scope, design, and manage the execution of quantitative market research (e.g., discrete-choice conjoint) to inform revenue forecasting via predictive patient share modeling
  • Act as business partner for the assigned therapeutic area lead for all market insights related issues/ questions
  • Develop actionable recommendations to therapeutic areas on commercial strategy decisions
  • Develop polished and up-leveled communication materials (slides, documents) targeted to key audiences including the C-suite, Board of Directors, and EVP/VP level
  • Present and lead discussion of results in a collaborative, efficient manner
  • Lead ad hoc strategy projects and initiatives (e.g. evaluating new indications and markets) for commercialized, pipeline products and external opportunities
  • Work with group leadership to improve the efficiency, consistency, rigor, and credibility of Pipeline Marketing Sciences, in collaboration with key global partners (US, Europe, Asia, Japan)

Requirements

  • 14+ years relevant experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or consulting with a focus in one or more areas of market research, forecasting, analytics, decision analytics, commercial planning, or marketing with Bachelors degree
  • A BS degree (or higher) in finance, life sciences or medicine (or equivalent) is required, and an MBA, Ph.D. in Life Sciences, or M.D. is desirable
  • Prior experience conducting, analyzing, and communicating qualitative and quantitative market research is required
  • Proven business leader with a track record of influencing cross-functional partners, successful conflict resolution, and consensus-driving is required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of high-level individual contributors with a long-term vision
  • Experience in patient-based market/revenue modeling is required
  • Must possess good task management skills, planning, prioritization, objective setting, and meeting management and plan execution
  • History of working and delivering on multiple projects simultaneously, with tight deadlines and changing priorities is required
  • History of process improvement, optimization, and reinvention to support better, faster, cheaper ways for routine processes and evolve the groups capability maturity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Strong ability to use Microsoft Office (specifically PowerPoint and Excel) to present quantitative data in graphical form is required
  • Experience in successfully presenting to senior leadership audiences, including simplifying complex materials, educating, and managing audiences with differing viewpoints to get to alignment
  • Experience in biopharmaceutical-focused marketing, commercial planning, or consulting is desirable
  • Experience in one or more of Gilead’s areas of focus (Oncology, Cell Therapy, Anti-viral, Inflammation, etc.) is desirable

Qualifications

  • BS degree (or higher) in finance, life sciences or medicine (or equivalent)
  • Bachelors degree in finance, life sciences or medicine (or equivalent) is required
  • Desirable to have MBA, Ph.D. in Life Sciences, or M.D.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is: $261,375.00 - $338,250.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
