About the role

The Senior Director - Business Development - Partnerships position supports Mayo Clinic's mission to provide top-quality healthcare and invests in its employees' well-being through competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Support Mayo Clinic's Business Development mission.
  • Execute and oversee multiple projects and initiatives, including partnerships, joint ventures, investments, mergers, and acquisitions.
  • Organize opportunities into appropriate work teams and assign staff to those teams.
  • Communicate project status to department leadership and represent the department externally.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership and staff in other departments, particularly in Commercialization and Technology Development.
  • Manage projects and opportunities within specific Work Teams, focusing on areas such as Biopharmaceuticals, Medical Devices, Diagnostics, Health Information Technology/AI, Health Services & Robotics, or Investments.
  • Be available to work on-site at Mayo Clinic campuses in Rochester, Eagan, Jacksonville, or Phoenix, approximately two to three days per week.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in business, science, or related field, or an advanced degree, with eight years of specific experience in business development, finance/venture capital, technology transfer, venture management, i/p commercialization, licensing, patents, partnerships, business-to-business collaborations, investments, start-up companies, or sourcing partnering opportunities in the health care, medical/biotechnology, or financial/venture capital industries.
  • A Bachelor’s degree and ten years of experience, or a combination of a Master’s degree and seven years of experience directly related to technology licensing for roles within the Commercialization Work Unit.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to interact with diverse individuals, strong project management and time management skills, entrepreneurial/intrapreneurial qualities, strong analytical skills, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently.

  • Business plan creation, due diligence, market research, marketing plan development, concept analysis, business model development, financial pro-forma development and analysis, legal/regulatory issues assessment, monitoring product/operating unit performance, technical sales, evaluation of medical technologies, negotiations, contract drafting, evaluation of scientific and commercialization potential of cutting-edge technologies, and knowledge of science, clinical or bench research, business principles, laws and regulations that relate to the patenting and licensing of inventions.
