SENIOR DESIGNER (NATURAL GAS)
Brief Description
Under some direction, routinely plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work, permits coordination, completes portions of project documents, assists Department Manager with delegation of tasks, interacts with Clients and officials for project tasks, and performs other related duties as required. Is knowledgeable of state and local regulations and utilities. Must have the ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
Examples Of Work/Duties
- Performs moderate design tasks (e.g., preparation of plans for natural gas utility (mains and services, as well as other linear utilities) including layout, construction details, temporary traffic control plan preparation, project design notes and considerations).
- Performs research and investigations of regulatory agency standards applicable to designs (i.e. Road Opening Permits, Railroad Occupancy, NJDEP, Soil Conservation District Certification).
- Designs, analyzes, and interprets data for items such as material sizing and specification, loading conditions analysis, and layout design criteria.
- Completes and assigns tasks to technical and administrative staff to ensure regulatory permit applications are properly prepared and delivered.
- Completes a thorough review of completed work. Staff of all levels are responsible for ensuring the quality of their own work, with experienced staff also responsible for review of others’ work.
- Aids with scheduling and budgetary requirements.
- Aids with proposals and project close outs.
- Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of technical assignments.
- Performs research and investigations (e.g., review of historic records) to document existing conditions including layout of utilities, develop design considerations, and confirm the scope of the project for review with Supervisors and/or Clients.
- Proficient in the use of historic records, aerial photographs, tax maps, and on-street utility mark-outs to determine system layouts.
- Senior Designers with relevant experience will also be responsible for training and mentoring entry-level Designers, coordinating with utility Clients and public review agencies (e.g., NJDOT), assisting project managers with project management tasks (e.g., schedule and budget related planning), and completing more-involved design tasks (e.g., preparation of detailed plans for horizontal directional drilling under existing roadways).
Requirements (Education, Licensing, Certifications, Etc.)
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- 3 years’ experience.
- PE License Preferred.
- Proficient in: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD.
Location and Hours
This is a full-time position located at our Headquarters Office in Flanders, NJ. The work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
