About the role
The Senior Designer III - Natural Gas at Orbital Engineering, Inc. is responsible for managing large and complex design projects, providing strategic leadership, and ensuring compliance with industry and client standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design of large and complex single-discipline and multi-discipline projects.
- Oversee the preparation of detailed designs, drawings, and 3D models, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Cook up and maintain internal design standards and workflows to ensure consistency and efficiency for existing clients and for new ones.
- Update templates and quality control documents as needed to ensure that they are consistent and comply with company/client standards.
- Perform quality control reviews on project deliverables, identifying and addressing potential issues.
- Supervise and mentor junior and mid-level designers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing.
- Provide expert guidance on resolving complex design challenges, offering practical and innovative solutions.
- Lead training initiatives to improve team proficiency and adherence to best practices.
- Collaborate with project managers, clients, and cross-discipline teams to define project scopes and ensure successful execution.
- Represent the design team in high-level client and project meetings, addressing technical and strategic concerns.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment on design requirements and deliverables.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in design and drafting, including leadership roles in large-scale industrial or utility projects.
- Expert-level proficiency in design software, such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or Civil 3D.
- Proven leadership skills with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Extensive knowledge of natural gas systems, including pipelines, compressor stations, and pressure control systems.
- Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory compliance in the natural gas or utility industries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and business enterprise software.
