About the Role
We are seeking a leader to join us as a Senior Electrical Designer. The Senior Electrical Designer will play a key role in the development of detailed design of electrical packages, contributing to the success and development of Venture Global Electrical Engineering Standards. Reporting directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager, you will work collaboratively with a team of engineers and designers to produce detailed designs and deliverables for the High Voltage (HV) system, Medium Voltage (MV) system, Low Voltage (LV) system, and Protection Systems.
Responsibilities
- Act as the drafting and design interface for the discipline for projects and proposals.
- Ensure quality of drafting, design, and back drafting by carrying out quality checks as per the quality procedures and maintain quality records.
- Monitor and report drafting and design progress for projects to the Engineering Manager.
- Induct drafting and design personnel to the drafting procedures in the office and ensure adherence to the same.
- Liaise with other disciplines on technical issues.
- Work independently to complete demanding assignments through the application of advanced design theories, techniques, and practices on several small and medium size projects.
- Work within a team environment with a minimum of supervision.
- Perform moderately to difficult drafting assignments requiring a working knowledge of established drafting techniques, standards, practices, and software.
- Understand and apply company procedures as they pertain to the electrical discipline.
- Oversee the preparation of design and detail drawings from sketches, plans, or other design/specification data.
- Take on responsibility for the design and drafting of HV, MV, and LV electrical installations.
- Direct the work of junior designers and ensure the drawings are in accordance with client requirements and relevant project specifications.
- Participate in design review with various clients and advise on technical design and drafting issues and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of completing a given work scope within time and project constraints.
- Develop layouts, plans, sections, elevations, and details for facilities, equipment, etc., from reference drawings or catalogs.
- Perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.
- Record and file electrical discipline documents.
- Travel to job sites to perform site walkdown on raceway routing, etc.
- Coordinate all electrical drawings.
- Work within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the project.
Requirements
- A Degree or Diploma in Electrical Design/Drafting with discipline-specific training. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in electrical design and drafting.
- 10 or more years of experience as an Electrical Design Lead in the Oil and Gas Industry.
- Experience in Engineering Workshare, 3D Modelling packages such as AutoPlant/PDMS/PDS, CAD, AutoCAD, Microstation, SmartPlant 3D, and SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL).
- Specialization in detailed drawings for lighting, small power and earthing systems, HV/MV/LV single line diagrams, wiring and control schematic diagrams, AC/DC distribution panels, process area electrical equipment layouts, substation and switchyard layouts, cable tray, above grade and underground cable layouts, ductbank sizing and layouts, preparation of installation details, grounding plans, and lightning layouts.
- Experience with cable schedules, cable pulling calculations, cable tray sizing calculations, cable selection & sizing calculations, lighting calculations (using software AGI32, etc.), material take-offs, selection of bulk materials, and heat tracing system layouts.
Schedule
Able to commute to Downtown Houston office Monday – Friday.
