Senior Counsel - Excess & Surplus/Specialty

About the role

This role will provide business-aligned guidance focused on governance, compliance, and operational risk management. You will partner with leaders, compliance stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate complex issues into practical recommendations. The position offers the opportunity to strengthen responsible execution, improve decision-making, and support sustainable growth within a regulated financial services environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on complex and high-risk matters
• Identify and assess potential legal risks and develop mitigation strategies
• Draft legal documents and create recommendations for business objectives
• Engage with senior leaders to guide strategic decision-making
• Create innovative solutions for unique and complex legal issues
• Maintain a broad network of professional relationships relevant to E&S insurance
• Lead and supervise a team while managing complex legal projects

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
• 15+ years of relevant legal experience, especially in Excess & Surplus lines
• Licensed attorney in good standing with continuing education compliance
• Subject matter expert in Excess & Surplus insurance, focusing on Programs and delegated authority business
• Strong communication and analytical skills

Pay

$149,000 – $279,000 annually
