Senior Counsel - Employment & Litigation

Responsibilities

  • Advise HR and relevant business stakeholders on day-to-day employment matters, including wage and overtime standards, privacy rights, employee benefits, employee agreements and policies, employee performance management, discipline, termination, and investigations pertaining to allegations of harassment and discrimination.
  • Aid in coordinating legal advice to HR and relevant business stakeholders on employment-related laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, National Labor Relations Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, state worker’s compensation laws, and related laws, as well as relevant employment-related laws in other jurisdictions.
  • Manage the global docket of potential and active employment-related litigation and administrative agency matters.
  • Monitor and analyze developments in employment laws and regulations, assess risk, and recommend strategies to support proactive compliance.
  • Collaborate with external counsel in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with CLO Billing guidelines.
  • Coordinate third-party vendors retained by UL Solutions on any litigation or dispute matters.
  • Perform other legal duties as directed by the Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Disputes (ACG) or other CLO leadership.

Qualifications

  • JD degree and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Bar admission in good standing; preference for Illinois.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment and labor laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use sound judgment, provide guidance, and make key decisions in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to contribute as a team player and work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and business leaders to fulfill and advance company strategy.
  • Ability to multi-task and organize workflow independently in response to the company's strategic priorities and objectives.
  • Willingness to travel on limited basis.

Benefits

UL Solutions offers a competitive salary range of $170,000 to $200,000 USD, based on job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and other factors. This position is eligible for an annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. Additionally, employees receive health benefits such as medical, dental, and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. Full-time employees also enjoy paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday (12 days), and sick time off (72 hours).
