About the role

Anaconda's Commercial Legal team closes deals with 95% of the Fortune 500, and this role sits at the center of that engine. We're looking for a Senior Counsel who can negotiate a $2M+ Fortune 100 agreement on Monday and ship the playbook that makes the next 50 deals easier by Friday. This is a builder-closer seat: you'll move fast, exercise sharp judgment on risk, and turn what you learn in the room into templates, playbooks, and processes that make the whole team faster. You'll partner directly with our enterprise, commercial, and mid-market sales teams, and help shape our approach on complex issues—including open-source/proprietary licensing, data governance, and regulatory compliance—that most commercial counsel never touch. This position reports to the Head of Commercial Legal and is fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Close deals fast and well: Provide high-impact partnership and support to revenue teams (enterprise, commercial, mid-market sales, customer success, and professional services).
  • Be a true partner to revenue: Offer hands-on support to sales, customer success, and professional services to meet business objectives and close deals while managing risk—earning early involvement.
  • Build systems: Own and continuously improve templates, playbooks, and resources to accelerate deal closure and track key operational and business metrics.
  • Flex where there’s need: Address legal needs across the company (product, marketing, community relations, etc.) based on background and interest.
  • Advise and guide: Act as a strategic business partner, advising leadership on legal matters critical to growth and innovation.
  • Put AI to work: Leverage AI tools to accelerate drafting and negotiation while building scalable processes for the Commercial Legal team.
  • Mentor: Serve as a resource and mentor to junior members of the Legal Team.

Requirements

  • JD or equivalent from an accredited law school and a license to practice in an applicable jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience.
  • Extensive experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and IP licenses (SaaS, partnership, professional services, vendor agreements).
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial law, IP law, data protection regulations, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Track record of building trusted strategic advisor relationships with internal clients.
  • Excellent communication skills, translating complex issues into practical, actionable guidance.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive resolution of open issues.
  • AI fluency: You’ve built a tool, workflow, or process with AI that measurably improved speed or scale.
  • Willingness to operate as an individual contributor with a scrappy mentality in a high-growth company.

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • Law firm and in-house experience.
  • Experience working at a company active in open source.
  • Knowledge or curiosity about the technology powering our products and services.
  • Bias toward proactive engagement—seeking stretch projects and helping others.
  • Experience thriving in fast-paced, high-growth environments (e.g., startups).

How Your Impact Will Be Measured

  • Velocity of revenue deals closed on risk-balanced terms.
  • Percentage of deals closed without senior review or escalation.
  • Number of contract templates and playbooks updated and adopted.
  • Number of informal team practices documented as policies and processes.
  • Development of metrics to assess the impact of AI tools on the team.
  • Stakeholder confidence in clear, timely communication.
  • Time and effort spent mentoring others on the team.

Benefits

  • Flexible Vacation Policy
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Monthly Wellness Stipend
  • Employee Assistance Program and Mental Health Resources

Pay
