Senior Corporate Policy Manager

Compassion in World Farming, founded in 1967 in England by farmer Peter Roberts, is an international organization dedicated to ending intensive factory farming and transforming the global food system. The organization has played a key role in landmark animal welfare reforms, including bans on barren battery cages and certain gestation and veal crates in the UK and Europe, and recognition of animals as sentient beings. Today, Compassion in World Farming works to replace a broken food and farming system with one that is humane, fair, and sustainable. The U.S. office, led by the U.S. Executive Director, is based in New York City and collaborates with global teams and partners to drive corporate and policy change in animal welfare and food system reform.

About the role

The Senior Corporate Policy Manager is a full-time remote role responsible for leading corporate engagement and policy initiatives that advance farm animal welfare and sustainable food systems in the U.S. This position develops and implements corporate policy strategies, engages with senior stakeholders at major food, agriculture, and retail companies, and negotiates commitments that improve animal welfare standards and reduce reliance on factory farming. The role involves monitoring policy and regulatory trends, drafting policy briefs, reports, and position statements, and representing Compassion in World Farming in industry forums, working groups, and external meetings.

The Senior Corporate Policy Manager collaborates closely with advocacy, campaigns, communications, and research teams to align corporate policy goals with organizational priorities and to ensure consistent messaging. Day-to-day tasks include strategic planning, stakeholder mapping, relationship management, data-driven analysis of corporate practices, and regular reporting on progress and impact.

Responsibilities

• Food Company Engagement and Networking (60%)
  • Engage and establish strong, senior relationships with leading US food companies to promote the importance of animal welfare and environmental sustainability goals that lead to policy commitments, annual reporting, implementation plans, collaborative work, and ultimately tangible progress toward those goals.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records for company accounts, engagement, and progress.
  • Develop the corporate policy team’s contact network.
  • Create and deliver compelling presentations to educate food business leaders about welfare topics and improved sourcing opportunities.
  • Research key information about top food companies and the broader industry.
• Food Company and Corporate Policy Team Support (20%)
  • Cross-team collaboration and support, such as website content writing, media interviews, and information requests.
  • Support the execution of food business events as needed.
• Representation of CIWF (15%)
  • Represent CIWF at industry conferences and events and in conversation with other stakeholders and industry groups.
• Management and Thought Leadership (5%)
  • Provide input for US Corporate Policy strategic planning, shaping the rationale for and execution of plans.
  • Potential to manage direct and indirect reports as assigned. Recruit and develop staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in corporate policy, public affairs, or corporate social responsibility, ideally within food, agriculture, sustainability, or animal welfare sectors.
• Strong skills in policy analysis, research, and development of evidence-based recommendations, including the ability to interpret regulatory and industry standards.
• Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with experience influencing senior corporate decision-makers and negotiating commitments or policies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting policy briefs, reports, presentations, and external communications tailored to diverse audiences.
• Strategic planning and project management abilities, with a track record of setting objectives, managing multiple initiatives, and delivering results within deadlines.
• Knowledge of farm animal welfare, sustainable food systems, environmental, social, and governance (ESG), or related fields; familiarity with the U.S. policy and regulatory landscape is highly beneficial.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment, collaborate across time zones, and contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and mission-driven culture.
• Bachelor’s degree in public policy, law, business, or environmental studies.

Schedule

This role is remote, and we welcome candidates living anywhere in the U.S. As part of a global organization and as a position that will meet frequently with businesses on the East Coast, the role will require Eastern or Central Time Zone working hours.

Pay

Salary is up to $80K annually for well-qualified candidates.
