About the role

The Senior Coordinator, Matchday Operations plays a key role in the operational delivery of MLS regular season matches, playoffs, and marquee events. The position supports Matchday Control, independently manages assigned live-match issues and escalations, analyzes matchday trends and risks, and partners with Clubs and internal stakeholders to promote consistent execution of league policies and operational standards. The Senior Coordinator also owns key departmental processes and assigned event workstreams, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and helps ensure Matchday Operations is prepared to deliver a consistent, high-quality matchday experience across the league.

Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day execution of Matchday Operations for the MLS regular season, playoffs, and marquee events.
  • Serve in Matchday Control for assigned matches, with responsibilities including:
    • Independently assessing and resolving operational issues within established protocols.
    • Managing live-match escalations and coordinating resolution with internal teams, Clubs, venues, and other stakeholders.
    • Interpreting and applying league policies and procedures.
    • Identifying matchday trends, operational risks, and recurring issues.
    • Recommending process and operational improvements based on matchday observations and analysis.
    • Escalating complex or high-impact issues to department leadership when appropriate.
  • Apply Matchday Manual policies and procedures to day-to-day and live-match operational issues and maintain a strong working knowledge of league standards and protocols.
  • Develop and maintain Club-facing and internal Matchday Operations materials, including operational documentation, databases, reports, presentations, and other resources.
  • Support the evaluation and enhancement of weather-monitoring tools and processes, identifying opportunities to improve inclement-weather tracking and matchday decision support.
  • Plan and execute assigned operational workstreams for MLS and affiliated marquee events, including MLS All-Star, MLS Cup, Leagues Cup, and other events as assigned.
  • Coordinate departmental and event-related administrative processes, including consultant, temporary worker, and vendor agreements.
  • Coordinate vendor payments, contract administration, expense tracking, and budget reconciliation; identify spending trends, variances, and potential issues for department leadership.
  • Maintain event-related equipment inventories, records, and materials to support operational readiness.
  • Prepare operational updates, analyses, and presentations for department leaders and executive audiences.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with Clubs, internal departments, vendors, event partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve departmental processes, documentation, tools, and workflows.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including regularly scheduled evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the MLS season.
  • Ability to work from the office as required to support matchday operations and league events.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management, Sports Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in event operations, sporting operations, competition operations, matchday operations, or a related field, preferably within the sports industry.

  • Strong presentation and visual communication skills, including the ability to develop clear and effective materials for operational and executive audiences.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and commitment to quality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Smartsheet.
  • Working knowledge of soccer and professional match operations.

Desired Skills

  • Experience supporting live sporting events, competition operations, or professional matchday environments.
  • Experience working with event vendors, temporary staff, budgets, contracts, or operational logistics.
  • Spanish-language proficiency.

Pay

Competitive starting base salary of $66,500 - 70,000, based on individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.

Schedule

  • Four (4) day in-office schedule, with the flexibility to work remotely one (1) day each week, based on business and department needs.
