About the role

As a T&IS Tax Senior focused on Transaction Readiness and Restructuring (TRR), you will analyze complex tax issues through financial statements, regulatory filings, transactional documentation, client correspondence, and tax returns. You will evaluate income and indirect tax implications of proposed integrations, divestitures, and business transformational transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake complex tax research and formulate tax-planning strategies.
  • Document notes, action items, and perform tax department assessments in collaboration with Deloitte Tax teams.
  • Expand tax research skills involving complex technical tax and operational issues (e.g., taxation of corporations and pass-throughs, tax accounting methods, tax operations, indirect taxation schemes in the U.S. and abroad).
  • Supervise assignments by tax professionals at the Consultant level, focusing on project management, organization, and effective communication.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in evaluating complex scenarios while supervising and developing team members.
  • Collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams to capture meeting notes, decisions, and action items, ensuring high-quality transaction-related deliverables.
  • Assist clients with tax matters related to transactions, including transaction costs, attribute limitations, departmental operations, synergy capture, and business process changes.
  • Provide stock basis and Earnings & Profit (E&P) analysis for restructuring companies, including those disposing of subsidiaries, making strategic acquisitions, or contemplating debt restructuring.

About the team

National Federal Tax Services (NFTS) is a national practice within Deloitte Tax LLP, including the Transaction & Integration Services (T&IS) practice. T&IS advises businesses and investors on tax matters related to integration, divestment, joint ventures, bankruptcy emergence, public equity offerings, and legal entity realignment. The Transaction Readiness & Restructuring (TRR) subgroup focuses on tax integration and divestiture services, often working with Deloitte Consulting in an Integrated Service Offering format.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a hybrid model, co-locating in person 2–3 days per week.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or JD.
  • 2+ years of experience in core federal tax compliance, including federal and/or international tax.
  • Experience in tax compliance and accounting for income tax, with a broad understanding of U.S. income tax principles.
  • Familiarity with ASC 740, tax accounting, and basic multi-state and international tax principles.
  • Willingness to travel 25%, on average.
  • One of the following active accreditations (obtained, in process, or willing to obtain):
    • Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office (if eligible to sit for the CPA).
    • Licensed attorney (if not CPA eligible).
    • Enrolled Agent.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP).
    • Chartered Financial Advisor (CFA).

Qualifications

  • Previous Big 4 experience or equivalent.
  • Advanced degree such as MST, MAcc, or LLM (preferred).
  • Experience in corporate tax issues related to business combinations and divestitures, including taxation of corporations, partnerships, and shareholders.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to handle multiple, competing priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly disciplined with the ability to work under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Pay

The wage range for this role is $78,675 to $160,750, considering factors such as skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and business needs. Compensation decisions depend on individual circumstances. You may also be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program based on individual and organizational performance.
