About the role

This position will provide highly specialized computational modeling expertise in design and development of innovative products to treat cardiac diseases within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Operating Unit. The emphasis will be on modeling the electrophysiology of the heart and the interaction between cardiac function and medical devices in vivo. The Senior Computational Modeling Engineer will understand business requirements, formulate a modeling approach, independently carry out modeling activities, and communicate results through technical reports and presentations.

This role is based in Mounds View, MN and requires less than 10% travel. The position operates on-site 4 days per week to foster collaboration and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Perform theoretical and finite element analysis (FEA) to predict cardiac system behavior under in vivo and in vitro load conditions.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring creativity and critical thinking.
  • Utilize FEA and numerical techniques to develop electrophysiological cardiac models capturing physiological effects and incorporating cardiac devices (e.g., sensing, pacing, electric fields).
  • Collaborate with research & development members to identify research goals and best applicability of computational models.
  • Apply modeling tools to design and develop new test methods, integrating new materials and processes.
  • Update methods and implementation to improve efficiency and maintain state-of-the-art practices.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional product development teams to bring products to market.
  • Perform troubleshooting by engaging peers, software technical support, and literature.
  • Conduct model verification studies and validation assessments.
  • Provide regular status updates to internal customers and management.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate technical assessments and analysis results.
  • Provide peer feedback on work within the group.
  • Generate intellectual property and aid in its evaluation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or a related technical discipline and minimum of 4 years of technical work experience OR advanced degree with 2 years of technical work experience OR PhD with 0 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or expertise in cardiovascular electrophysiology.
  • Experience solving multiphysics problems requiring coupling among mechanical, electrical, biological, and fluid behaviors.
  • Experience incorporating subject- and/or patient-specific features into computational modeling methods.
  • Experience with programming/scripting in Python and Matlab.
  • Experience with CARPentry or similar tools.
  • Experience with Mimics or Simpleware.

Skills

  • PhD in engineering with an emphasis in FEA or electrophysiology (nice to have).
  • Experience using FEA for device design, optimization, testing verification, method validation, and regulatory submissions.
  • Ability to scope tasks and projects (time, resources, tools) to develop schedules and update management.
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively on cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Six Sigma practices and statistical methods.
  • Experience with ANSYS, Abaqus, or LS-DYNA.
  • Experience with CAD software such as Pro/Engineer or Solidworks.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new knowledge quickly.

Pay

Salary range for U.S. locations (excluding Puerto Rico): $105,600.00 - $158,400.00 USD. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
