This position reports to the Director, Commercial Training + Education in the respective franchise, cluster, region, or local market. The role is field-based and primarily focuses on equipping, coaching, and certifying sales professionals to drive sustainable growth and impact patient care.
Responsibilities
- Training and Coaching (70% of the role)
- Classroom-based training (30%) and Field-based training (40%):
- Deliver training to new and tenured sales professionals through live instructor-led courses, virtual classrooms, and field-based training/coaching.
- Conduct individual or small-group field rides, local seminars, workshops, and other training events.
- Ensure sales team certification on knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to win (e.g., product, clinical, procedural knowledge, competitive insights, selling and negotiation skills, business planning).
- Deliver curriculum aligned with the Global Commercial Training competency framework and accelerate sales readiness.
- Manage learning events (classroom, webinar, field-based) in the Learning Unlimited platform, emphasizing adult learning principles and interactive facilitation.
- Collaborate with HR and Sales Management to remediate performance gaps using advanced interpersonal leadership skills.
- Act as a mentor and role model for sales reps, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Classroom-based training (30%) and Field-based training (40%):
- Collaboration with Stakeholders (30% of the role)
- Partner with Global Content Development, Global Marketing, and local business leaders (Sales Leadership, BUDs, Cluster MDs) to tailor globally developed content for local market needs.
- Design workshop agendas and coordinate resources for delivery.
- Serve as lead liaison with co-facilitators in Sales Leadership, Marketing, Compliance, HR, Sales Operations, and Medical Education.
- Oversee timely completion and dissemination of assessments for Instructor-Led Trainings.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certifications:
- Adult Learning/Facilitation (e.g., Bob Pike Certification, Langevin Learning).
- ADDIE instructional design.
- Train the Trainer (e.g., Pioneer, Lane 4, Langevin).
- Certified in Smith+Nephew selling and coaching skills.
- Experience:
- 5–10 years in sales, preferably in Smith+Nephew or a related med device industry, or
- 5+ years in learning/training-related fields.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Exceptional presentation and facilitation skills.
- Deep understanding of selling skills and Smith+Nephew’s global selling process.
- Expertise in Smith+Nephew products, clinical pathways, surgical procedures, and competitive landscape.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and its practical application.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills to uncover root causes and develop improvement initiatives.
- Strong collaboration and team-building abilities.
- Effective leadership, motivation, and goal achievement through formal and informal channels.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, execute, and follow up in a timely manner with a solution-oriented mindset.
- High personal integrity and ethics with uncompromising standards.
- Fluency in the primary language of the cluster.
Physical Demands
- Travel Requirements: 25–50%.
- Field professionals must successfully complete credentialing processes and comply with healthcare facility requirements, including vaccine protocols.
