About the role

Join Vortex Doors—recognized for high-caliber service and customer focus—as a seasoned technician who installs, repairs, and maintains commercial and industrial doors, docks, and related hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Install, service, and troubleshoot a wide range of commercial doors, docks, and associated hardware with the correct tools and techniques.
  • Diagnose and complete routine repairs on springs, hinges, locks, and electrical components; welding training available if you want to learn.
  • Set up and fine-tune door hardware including locks, handles, closers, low-voltage integrations, and access control systems.
  • Verify installations comply with safety requirements, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Deliver courteous, solution-oriented customer service—explain findings, outline options, and recommend cost-effective fixes.
  • Maintain thorough records of service calls, repairs, parts used, and installations; submit required reports on time.
  • Identify root causes quickly and present practical resolutions to customers in the field.
  • Perform final quality checks to uphold Vortex’s unsurpassed workmanship.

Requirements

  • Hiring bonus: up to $3,000 for candidates with commercial or industrial door experience.
  • 3+ years in commercial door service (we're especially interested in technicians with 4+ years).
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • An AA/ADMM certification is a plus.
  • Broad knowledge of door types, brands, and related hardware.
  • Skilled with hand and power tools.
  • Comfort with math involving fractions and precise tape-measure readings.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more and meet the physical demands of continuous lifting/bending, ladder work up to 20’, extended kneeling, and confident power-tool operation.
  • Excellent people skills—listen, relate, and resolve customer issues calmly and professionally.
  • A clear communicator who collaborates effectively in all conditions and at a fast pace.
  • A resourceful troubleshooter with persuasive abilities when needed.
  • Detail-oriented, quality-driven, reliable, and self-motivated.

Qualifications

  • Must pass Drug test, Background check and Motor Vehicle check.

Schedule and field conditions

  • Full-time within Vortex business hours of 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, Monday–Friday, plus some overtime and on-call as needed.
