SENIOR CLASSIFICATION OFFICER

About the role

This is a Career Service position located at Hamilton Correctional Institution in the Classification Department. Our mission is to accurately assess and classify inmates based on their needs, risks, and behaviors. We ensure appropriate housing and program placements within the correctional system. Our goal is to enhance safety and security while promoting effective rehabilitation, ultimately aiding in the successful reintegration of inmates into society. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload of inmates, including those with special statuses, and prepare comprehensive inmate management plans.
• Recommend custody classifications and institutional/program assignments based on thorough evaluations from reports, interviews, and correspondence.
• Supervise and evaluate inmate progress, preparing detailed progress reports and making special status recommendations.
• Maintain accurate inmate information in the department's offender database system and evaluate gain time awards.
• Assist in training new classification staff, support the Classification Supervisor with administrative functions, and manage a Release Officer caseload.

Requirements

• Must possess two (2) years of Classification Officer experience.
• Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with file audit and custody procedures.
• Possess a working knowledge of disciplinary processes.
• Capability to handle large volumes of inmate change and movement.
