About the Role
Guardian Engineering Enterprises, LLC is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in either our Houston, TX, Chicago, IL, or Brooklyn, NY office. This role offers a hybrid work schedule, blending in-office collaboration with remote flexibility. The successful candidate will lead and execute civil engineering design work focused on AI infrastructure, data centers, mission-critical facilities, and site development projects. A Professional Engineer (PE) license and 8+ years of relevant experience are required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive design and analysis of site development and civil infrastructure systems for AI infrastructure and data centers, including layouts, grading, utilities, and drainage for mission-critical campuses and industrial developments.
- Conduct detailed civil engineering assessments of data center and industrial sites, including topographic, geotechnical, and utility capacity studies to optimize development and perform infrastructure due diligence.
- Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and cost estimates for site improvements and civil construction activities.
- Develop construction documents and specifications in alignment with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements for AI infrastructure and mission-critical site development.
- Design and specify civil infrastructure systems for large-scale facility developments, including roadways, parking areas, site utilities (water, sewer, storm drainage), and site improvements.
- Lead earthwork and grading design, including cut/fill optimization and erosion control measures.
- Ensure compliance with all civil codes, environmental regulations, and permitting requirements while coordinating with agencies and utility providers.
- Contribute to value engineering, analyzing design alternatives and lifecycle costs to enhance performance and budget alignment.
- Support procurement activities for civil construction, including bid documentation, addenda, and contractor inquiries.
- Review submittals and RFIs during construction to ensure alignment with design intent and regulatory standards.
- Conduct field observations and quality assurance inspections during construction phases and document progress.
- Lead construction administration activities, including site observations, progress monitoring, and verification of design parameters.
- Support client relationships through professional communication, mentorship of junior engineers, and management of discipline-specific schedules and budgets.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred) with 8+ years of experience in site development, utility design, and infrastructure projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Proven expertise in civil design, assessment, and construction oversight for infrastructure, site development, and utility engineering in commercial and industrial settings.
- Strong client-facing communication skills with proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, HydroCAD, StormCAD, and related design tools.
- Expertise in data center site development, large-scale grading operations, and utility coordination.
- Proficiency in site planning for technology infrastructure, including layout optimization and utility capacity planning.
- Strong knowledge of civil infrastructure design for roadways, drainage systems, and utility networks.
- Advanced understanding of environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and coordination with municipal agencies.
- Proven ability to resolve complex civil engineering challenges and lead project teams.
- Ability to communicate technical details to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers.
- Excellent documentation, reporting, and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet aggressive deadlines and uphold quality standards.
