Orlando Health Cancer Institute is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer program serving the region’s adult oncology needs. The institute specializes in more than 200 types of cancer and offers personalized care with advanced technologies like advanced radiation and proton therapies, bone marrow transplant, and cellular therapy. It is accredited by the Commission on Cancer and has accreditations in various specialties.

Responsibilities

• Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
• Participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
• Communicates effectively with patients and family members, collaborating with administrative and operations staff.
• Gathers patient data through interviews and observations, assists with examinations, and administers approved medications.
• Documents patient data, treatments, and procedures according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
• Schedules and coordinates specialty testing and consultations for patients.
• Assists with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients in the business office.
• Supports and develops quality strategies within the practice, assisting in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
• Collaborates with clinical leadership and education to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants.
• Leads and participates in departmental committees and special projects.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting.
• Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
• Maintains current certification or registry by one of the following agencies: CCMA, CMA, CMAC, NCMA, NRCMA, RMA.
