About the Role
Orlando Health Physician Associates is one of the largest primary care provider (PCP) groups in Central Florida, comprising the PCP network of the Orlando Health Medical Group. With more than 225 providers, we deliver care in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and podiatry. Our PCPs provide care for every age and stage, from childhood development to pregnancy and chronic disease management. As part of Orlando Health, our providers can refer and coordinate care throughout the system’s integrated network of healthcare services.
This role is based at 4932 West State Road 46, Suite 1090, Sanford, FL 32771.
Responsibilities
- Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
- Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
- Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
- Works collaboratively with administrative and operations staff.
- Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
- Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
- Assists the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) during examination and procedures.
- Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
- Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
- Enters medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under direction of a provider.
- Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
- Acts as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule specialty testing and/or physician consultation.
- Processes incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
- Helps develop and coordinate the orientation process for Medical Assistants, acting as a preceptor or overseeing assigned preceptors.
- Supports and helps develop quality strategies within the practice.
- Facilitates and participates in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
- Collaborates with clinical leadership and education to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants.
- Leads and participates in departmental committees and special projects.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and federal, state, and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients.
- Demonstrates awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Practices efficient use of supplies.
- Assists the business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting) required.
- Minimum three (3) years as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
- Maintains current certification or registry by one of the following agencies:
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
Schedule
The hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
