Responsibilities

• Oversee scheduling and preregistration duties, including patient demographic validation, insurance benefit verification, prior authorizations, referrals, and follow-up care.
• Provide support to physicians, advanced practice providers, and operational leadership by developing and coordinating provider assignments to ensure optimal coverage.
• Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
• Participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
• Demonstrate effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
• Collaborate with administrative and operations staff.
• Gather patient data through interview and observation; assist with preparation for examinations.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures; demonstrate competency in defined tasks and skills.
• Provide routine treatments and administer approved medications as ordered by the provider.
• Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
• Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to policies.
• Act as a liaison for patients to schedule specialty testing or consultations.
• Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using clinical judgment.
• Help develop and coordinate the orientation process for Medical Assistants in the assigned practice.
• Act as a preceptor or oversee assigned preceptors in collaboration with leadership and Learning Consultant.
• Support and develop quality strategies within the practice.
• Facilitate and participate in the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
• Collaborate with clinical leadership and education to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants.
• Lead and participate in departmental committees and special projects.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and federal/state standards.
• Comply with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care and assess patient data.
• Demonstrate awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and compliance standards.
• Practice efficient use of supplies; assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or at least one year of verifiable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting.

Qualifications

• Maintain current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
• Maintain current certification or registration by one of the following agencies:
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), or American Allied Health (AAH)
• Applicants with certifications from other agencies may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Schedule

Full-time position with varying shifts. Candidate must be available to work 7:45 AM – 5:00 PM.
