Position Summary

Orlando Health Physician Associates is a large primary care provider network within the Orlando Health system. Providers cover various specialties including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and podiatry. The group offers comprehensive care from pediatric to geriatric patients, along with referrals and coordination of care across the Orlando Health network.

Responsibilities

• Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
• Participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
• Communicates effectively with patients and families.
• Collaborates with administrative and operations staff.
• Gathers patient data through interviews and observations.
• Aids patients and families with examination preparations.
• Aides physicians or advanced practice providers during examinations and procedures.
• Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
• Administers approved medications as ordered by the provider.
• Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
• Schedules and coordinates specialty testing and consultations for patients.
• Manages incoming and outgoing calls professionally.
• Develops and coordinates orientation processes for new Medical Assistants.
• Learns and assists in developing quality strategies within the practice.
• Facilitates and participates in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
• Maintains competence of Medical Assistants through collaboration with clinical leadership and education.
• Leads and participates in departmental committees and special projects.
• Maintains reasonable attendance and complies with Orlando Health policies.
• Practices efficient use of supplies.
• Assists in the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or equivalent work experience in a patient care setting.
• Minimum three (3) years as Certified Medical Assistant.
• Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
• Maintains current certification or registry by one of the following agencies:
• National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
• National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
• American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
