About the role
The Estates, Facilities and Capital Planning directorate of NHS Highland provides a wide range of essential services which enable the continuous delivery of safe, high-quality care to patients and supports our staff and the public in our healthcare locations. Our services are delivered by a team of over 1000 NHS staff.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic, operational and technical leadership to the Estates Major Capital Planning function across NHS Highland’s diverse and complex portfolio of property, services, staffing and budgets, ensuring adoption of 'best value' principles, the development and maintenance of standards, and minimisation of risk exposure.
- Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and develop and implement strategies, policies, and service delivery across Major Capital Planning services.
- Promote awareness of the contribution of Facilities and Estates services to the patient journey in terms of quality and effectiveness to staff and managers within and out with the Directorate.
- Lead on the delivery of NHS Highlands Major Capital Projects (including the new £200m Lochaber Hospital Project).
- Contribute to the strategic and operational management of NHS Highland through various forums and groups such as the NHS Highland Senior Leadership Team, Area Partnership Forum, H&SCP management teams etc.
- Provide future long term strategic planning and provision of Major Projects that directly support all clinical and non-clinical services of NHS Highland and delivery of organisational objectives.
- Act as a positive role model for NHSH and NHS Scotland values of care and compassion, quality and teamwork, dignity and respect and openness, honesty and responsibility, ensuring these values are reflected in everyday practice.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have:
- Proven experience in leading and managing major capital projects.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence and engage stakeholders.
- Experience in developing and implementing strategies, policies, and service delivery.
- Knowledge of 'best value' principles and risk management.
- Experience in promoting the contribution of Facilities and Estates services to the patient journey.
- Experience in contributing to strategic and operational management of NHS Highland.
- Experience in providing future long term strategic planning and provision of Major Projects.
- Experience in acting as a positive role model for NHS Scotland values.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in a related field.

Pay
The starting salary for this role is £60,000 per annum, with potential for progression based on performance.
Schedule
The role is full-time and permanent.
