Full-time, exempt professional staff position within the Budget, Financial Planning & Analysis Office at Fayetteville State University, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration.
About the role
The Senior Budget Analyst analyzes financial data, monitors budget compliance, and prepares reports for stakeholders related to position control management and all-funds financial reporting. The role involves developing long-term financial plans and conducting cost-benefit analyses for position control (salaries, benefits, and FTEs).

- Prepare reports for various stakeholders for position control management and all-funds financial reporting.
- Develop long-term financial plans and conduct cost-benefit analyses for position control (salaries, benefits, and FTEs).
Requirements
- Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, accounting, or a related field with 1–2 years of experience in public administration, business administration, accounting, or a related field.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, accounting, or a related discipline with 2–4 years of experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Skills
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local budgeting and finance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
- Strong skills in budget procedures.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
- Ability to operate accounting systems for data management, problem resolution, and information research.
- Ability to meet deadlines and proofread documents.
- Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports.
- Ability to exercise independent initiative and judgment without clear directives.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, external agencies, vendors, and the community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a budget analyst position.
- Experience working in higher education or state government.
