About the Role

Trueline's client, a fast-growing plaintiff-side litigation firm representing property owners in disputes with insurance carriers, is seeking a Senior Attorney to join and help lead its South Carolina practice. This fully remote opportunity is designed for an accomplished litigator who can independently manage complex matters, mentor others, and potentially grow into broader leadership while participating directly in the financial success of the cases they handle and originate.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a docket of first-party property insurance matters from initial evaluation and pre-suit strategy through litigation and resolution
  • Develop case strategy, valuation, settlement recommendations, and litigation plans
  • Evaluate incoming claims and determine viability, risk, and potential value
  • Draft and argue substantive motions
  • Manage written discovery and complex litigation deadlines
  • Take and defend depositions of adjusters, corporate representatives, engineers, experts, and other witnesses
  • Represent clients in mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials as appropriate
  • Negotiate directly with insurance carriers and defense counsel
  • Manage federal court matters
  • Communicate directly with clients throughout the life of their cases
  • Supervise and mentor associates, paralegals, and litigation support professionals
  • Review work product and help develop less-experienced attorneys
  • Help improve litigation strategy, case-management practices, and team execution as the practice expands
  • Develop referral relationships and originate new matters where appropriate
  • Serve as a trusted senior member of a growing multi-state litigation practice

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active South Carolina Bar license in good standing
  • 4+ years of substantive civil litigation experience
  • Ability to independently manage litigation matters from pre-suit through resolution
  • Strong motion practice, deposition, discovery, and negotiation experience
  • Experience developing case strategy and evaluating litigation risk
  • Experience managing or mentoring attorneys, paralegals, or other legal professionals
  • Strong legal writing and analytical skills
  • Strong client communication skills
  • Sound judgment and ability to make decisions without constant oversight
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational discipline
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and a litigation docket in a fully remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Insurance defense experience
  • First-party property insurance litigation experience
  • Insurance coverage experience
  • Familiarity with how carriers evaluate, defend, reserve, negotiate, and resolve claims
  • Bad-faith litigation experience
  • Federal court experience
  • Trial experience
  • Property litigation involving hail, wind, hurricane, fire, water, or similar losses
  • Experience managing or developing junior attorneys
  • Previous team-lead, supervisory, or management responsibility
  • Existing referral relationships or a book of business
  • Experience originating legal matters
  • Clio experience
  • Additional state bar admissions

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary of $110,000-$140,000+, depending on experience
  • 5% commission on net legal fees generated from matters handled by the attorney
  • 15% origination credit on net legal fees from matters personally originated or referred to the firm
  • Health insurance with the firm covering 75% of the employee premium
  • 401(k) with a 3% employer match

Schedule and Location

  • Fully remote work
  • Greenville, SC is preferred, but qualified South Carolina-barred attorneys may be considered from other locations
