About the role
The purpose of this classification is to provide legal counsel and advice to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG), its departments, divisions, boards, officials, and employees, and to represent the organization in litigation, negotiations and other matters where legal counsel is required.
Responsibilities
- Provides representation and counsel to specified departments or divisions
- Drafts legal documents, resolutions, motions, ordinances, contracts, pleadings, briefs and opinions; negotiates revisions
- Researches and analyzes complex legal issues and prepares written analysis and evaluations
- Represents and prepares clients for mediations, informal settlement negotiations and court
- Represents the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in state and federal courts
- Provides legal counsel to boards and commissions
- Supervises paralegals in preparation of pleadings and review of work
Requirements
- Juris Doctor
- Two years of related experience
- Must be a member of the Kentucky Bar Association

Pay
The minimum salary is $92,449.76 annually. This position is not eligible for overtime (exempt); however, the city has a compensatory time leave program for employees that grants leave time for hours worked in excess of 40 hours.
