Senior Associate, Data Scientist - LLM Customization Team
About the role
The AI Foundations LLM Customization team at Capital One is dedicated to bringing our vision for Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI to life. Our work spans the entire research lifecycle, from initial research to deploying production systems. We collaborate with product, technology, and business leaders to apply the latest advancements in AI to our business needs.
Responsibilities
- Partner with a cross-functional team to develop AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions with financial services.
- Leverage a diverse set of technologies including PyTorch, Hugging Face, AWS Ultraclusters, LangChain, and Vector Databases to analyze and interpret complex data sets.
- Expertly utilize Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to customize and fine-tune LLMs for specific business applications and features.
- Build and optimize NLP models throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring they are scalable and resilient in production environments.
- Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, translating complex AI projects into clear business objectives.
Requirements
- Currently holds or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields).
- Experience with AWS, Python, Scala, or R.
- At least 2 years of experience in machine learning and SQL.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or PhD in STEM field.
- Experience with training optimization, self-supervised learning, explainability, and RLHF.
- Track record of delivering models at scale in terms of both training data and inference volumes.
- Experience in developing libraries, platforms, or solution-level code for existing products.

Pay
Salaries for this role vary by location, ranging from $135,600 to $168,900 annually. Performance-based incentives may also be offered.
