About the role

The AI Foundations LLM Customization team at Capital One is dedicated to bringing our vision for Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI to life. Our work spans the entire research lifecycle, from initial research to deploying robust production systems. We collaborate with product, technology, and business leaders to leverage the latest advancements in AI to transform our business.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with a cross-functional team to develop AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions with financial services.
  • Leverage a diverse set of technologies including Pytorch, Hugging Face, AWS Ultraclusters, LangChain, and Vector Databases to analyze and interpret complex data sets.
  • Expertly apply and fine-tune LLMs for specific business needs, ensuring they meet high standards of accuracy and usability.
  • Develop and optimize NLP models throughout the entire development process, from design to deployment, ensuring scalability and resilience in production environments.
  • Communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, translating the intricacies of AI research into actionable business strategies.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently obtained a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field).
  • Experience with Python, Scala, or R, and proficiency in machine learning and SQL.
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs and cloud computing platforms like AWS.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate across various departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's or PhD in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
  • Experience with AWS and Scala.
  • Knowledge in areas such as training optimization, self-supervised learning, explainability, and RLHF.
  • Track record of delivering scalable models and solutions in training and inference environments.

Pay

Salaries for this role vary by location and are listed below:

  • Cambridge, MA: $135,600 - $154,800 for Senior Associate, Data Science
  • Mclean, VA: $135,600 - $154,800 for Senior Associate, Data Science
  • New York, NY: $148,000 - $168,900 for Senior Associate, Data Science
  • San Jose, CA: $148,000 - $168,900 for Senior Associate, Data Science

Schedule

This role is full-time and requires regular attendance and availability to meet project deadlines.

Skills

To succeed in this role, you should possess a strong foundation in machine learning, particularly in natural language processing and large language model applications. Experience with open-source tools and cloud platforms is essential.
