Overview

We’re seeking a forward-thinking Claims Architect who thrives on designing, modernizing, and integrating complex solutions across the full claims lifecycle. You’ll drive architecture within the Claims domain, partnering with business and technology leaders to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient solutions that improve operational effectiveness and customer outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Roadmaps: Create system blueprints and multi-year roadmaps for Claims platforms, defining components, data flows, integrations, security controls, and dependencies while evaluating emerging technologies for scalability, reliability, and business value.
  • Cloud-Native Modernization: Lead architecture strategy for custom and platform-based Claims solutions, guiding cloud-native design using Azure services, microservices, containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and platform engineering capabilities.
  • Integration Standards: Define patterns for integration and interoperability across Claims and adjacent platforms, focusing on API-first design, REST/GraphQL, event-driven integration, and shared services.
  • Engineering Governance: Partner with Engineering Leads to establish architecture-aligned guidance for coding standards, design patterns, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, DevOps, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Bicep), and overall software quality.
  • Non-Functional Requirements: Define and promote NFRs - performance, scalability, availability, resiliency, observability, and security - ensuring adherence throughout the application lifecycle.
  • AI Enablement: Evaluate opportunities to leverage Azure AI Services, Generative AI, and intelligent automation within the Claims ecosystem, with appropriate governance, security, and compliance controls.
  • Technical Debt & Modernization: Assess and document technical debt, establish prioritization frameworks, and communicate remediation strategies and modernization plans to stakeholders.
  • Alignment & Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with business owners, product, and delivery teams to align solutions with business strategy, enterprise standards, data governance, and regulatory obligations - while staying current on P&C insurance and cloud technology trends.

Qualifications

We’re looking for a technology leader with deep architectural expertise, strong Claims domain alignment, and a track record of modernizing enterprise platforms.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of application development experience and 3+ years in a Solution, Application, or Enterprise Architecture role.
  • Deep expertise across application, integration, data, security, and cloud architecture, with strong experience designing complex, high-volume, multi-tier systems built on .NET, Pega, Oracle, SQL, and Azure.
  • Hands-on experience building and modernizing cloud-native applications using microservices, API-first design, REST/GraphQL, event-driven architectures, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, and automated testing, with experience guiding coding standards, code review, and engineering quality practices.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and integrating BPM solutions, particularly Pega-based platforms and workflows (beyond platform familiarity).
  • Experience evaluating or integrating Azure AI Services, AI-enabled capabilities, or machine learning within enterprise applications.
  • Proven ability to define architecture standards, lead reviews, and mentor teams across multiple delivery groups.
  • Strong communication and strategic thinking skills, translating complex Claims challenges into actionable solutions and roadmaps for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Property & Casualty insurance industry or another highly regulated environment requiring strong governance, compliance, and security controls.
  • Familiarity with Claims workflow modernization, intelligent document processing, and Agile/Scrum/SAFe delivery methodologies.

Benefits

Selective Insurance offers a total rewards package that includes:

  • Competitive base salary and incentive plan eligibility at all levels.
  • Comprehensive health care plans.
  • Retirement savings plan with company match.
  • Discounted Employee Stock Purchase Program.
