Responsibilities

  • Ensure all aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC) receives appropriate care by adhering to operational guidelines, policies, and procedures, completing aquatic maintenance, assessing and addressing aquatic life health and conditions (e.g., medicating, water changes, removing from sale), and creating Companion Animal Incident Reports as needed.
  • Complete and apply training programs to maintain expertise and educate other PCC partners in aquatic care and maintenance.
  • Place aquatic life orders and special-order requests to maximize sales and inventory, meeting customer needs.
  • Act as the primary resource for guests and PCC partners regarding aquatic education and care, utilizing our selling model.
  • Participate in aquatic life physical inventory counts and collaborate with the Companion Animal Leader (CAL) to analyze inventory management data, CAPI results, and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure aquatic life and merchandise are stocked, priced, and displayed to create an appealing presentation, including routine housekeeping tasks such as aquarium system maintenance, sweeping/mopping floors, and dusting.
  • Accurately complete required digital paperwork (e.g., water test results, receiving POs) in a timely manner.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned, with or without regular supervision.
  • Utilize selling behaviors to provide an exceptional guest experience and identify customer needs.
  • Contribute to a safe environment by maintaining safety protocols for partners, guests, and pets.
  • Be part of a collaborative culture focused on the health and wellness of pets.
  • Engage in career development through participation in training and developmental programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for freshwater and marine aquatic life.
  • High level of knowledge of aquatic life and aptitude for sales techniques.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor with a genuine interest in animals and their care.
  • Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills for interaction with the public, partners, leaders, and external veterinary partners.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Proficiency in mathematics, basic accounting, and exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, move merchandise (up to 50 pounds), and stand for long periods.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Completion of all assigned Petco Animal Care training programs is required for this role.

Pay

Start rate: $15.00 per hour.
