Responsibilities

  • Ensure all aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC) receives appropriate care by adhering to operational guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Complete aquatic maintenance, assess and address aquatic life health and conditions (e.g., medicate, water change, remove from sale), and create Companion Animal Incident Reports as needed.
  • Complete and apply training programs to maintain expertise and educate other PCC partners in aquatic care and maintenance.
  • Place aquatic life orders and special-order requests to maximize sales and inventory to meet customer needs.
  • Act as the primary resource, using our selling model to support guests and other PCC partners regarding aquatic education and care.
  • Participate in aquatic life physical inventory counts and collaborate with the CAL to analyze inventory management data, CAPI results, and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure aquatic life and merchandise are stocked, priced, and displayed to create an appealing presentation, including routine housekeeping tasks (e.g., aquarium system maintenance, sweeping/mopping floors, dusting).
  • Accurately complete required digital paperwork (e.g., water test results, receiving POs) in a timely manner.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as required or assigned, with or without regular supervision.
  • Utilize selling behaviors to provide an amazing guest experience within our Pet Care Center locations.
  • Contribute to a safe environment by maintaining safety protocols for partners, guests, and pets.
  • Engage in a collaborative culture centered around the health and wellness needs of pets.
  • Participate in developmental programs to support career growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for freshwater and marine aquatic life.
  • High level of knowledge of aquatic life and an aptitude for sales techniques.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor with a genuine interest in animals and their care.
  • Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills for interaction with the public, partners, leaders, and external veterinary partners.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Proficiency in mathematics, basic accounting, and exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, move merchandise (up to 50 pounds), and stand for long periods.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Completion of all assigned Petco Animal Care training programs is required.

Work Environment

The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, though guest carryout may require brief outdoor activity. The role involves physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and standing for extended periods.

Pay

Start rate: $15.00 per hour.
