About the role
BukuWarung is a Y-Combinator-backed technology company building digital infrastructure to empower 60 million MSMEs in Indonesia. Our mission is to enable these businesses to become financially aware, manage, and grow using our technology platform for digital payments and lending.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and record daily accounting operations to ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
- Review and reconcile key balance sheet accounts, including cash, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and intercompany balances.
- Analyze financial variances and investigate discrepancies, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and appropriately.
- Prepare monthly financial statements for entities under Buku Warung.
- Filling in governments and/or regulators reporting forms.
- Revenue Recording: Post revenue and COGS from third parties and intercompany transactions. Reconcile customer deposits, revenue, COGS, inventory, and other related accounts on a monthly basis. Reconcile intercompany transactions in a timely manner.
- Tax & Compliance Support: Ensure vendor invoices are correctly tagged with the applicable withholding tax (PPh 23, PPh 4(2), etc.) and VAT treatment in line with Indonesian tax regulations. Maintain awareness of changes in Indonesian tax regulations relevant to transactions.
- Audit & Internal Controls: Prepare and compile audit schedules and supporting documents for external and internal audit purposes. Respond to auditor requests in a timely and accurate manner.
- General Finance Support: Assist with ad-hoc finance tasks, reporting, and cross-functional requests as directed by the Accounting Manager. Participate in process improvement initiatives within the accounting systems or related tools.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Hard Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (S1 Akuntansi) — required.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience in accounting or finance.
- Experience in external audit (Big 4, mid-tier, or local audit firm) is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of Indonesian tax regulations applicable — PPh and PPN (VAT).
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Accurate, SAP, Xero, or similar ERP systems) is an advantage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel — comfortable with vlookups, pivot tables, and basic reconciliation templates.
- Understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and general ledger concepts.
- Soft Skills & Competencies:
- High attention to detail and a strong sense of accuracy.
- Organised and able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously without losing track.
- Proactive communicator — able to follow up with stakeholders and internal teams independently.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where processes are still being built and improved.
- Good written and spoken communication in Bahasa Indonesia; basic English proficiency is a plus.
- Integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
