Senior Accounting Manager, Transportation Business
About the role
We're looking for a Senior Transportation Accounting Manager to own the full accounting lifecycle for Stord's Parcel and Freight business lines. This is a high-impact, player-coach role sitting at the intersection of finance, operations, and technology — where your accounting expertise will directly shape how we measure and manage the economics of our transportation business. You'll be the financial and accounting lead responsible for all revenue recognition, billing accuracy, and cost recognition and accruals across parcel and freight. You'll also serve as the primary finance partner for the internal systems teams building and maintaining the data infrastructure that feeds our billing and cost review platforms — meaning you don't just close the books, you help make sure the systems producing the numbers are right.
Responsibilities
Own end-to-end billing accuracy and revenue recognition for all parcel and freight transactions
Manage monthly and quarterly revenue accrual processes, ensuring completeness and accuracy under GAAP
Partner with operations and commercial teams to resolve billing disputes, identify gaps, and tighten controls
Lead expense review and accrual processes for carrier costs and freight payables
Analyze transportation cost trends and flag variances to leadership with clear explanations and recommended actions
Own the month-end close calendar for all transportation-related cost accounts
Serve as the finance and accounting lead for Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and internally developed subsystems that feed billing and cost review workflows — from requirements gathering through UAT and ongoing data validation
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to ensure accounting requirements are built into system design and that output data meets financial reporting standards
Develop and maintain management reporting and analytics for parcel and freight P&L visibility
Manage and mentor direct reports
Build a team culture of ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role
Transportation or logistics industry background — you know how parcel and freight billing works, including carrier contracts, accessorial charges, fuel surcharges, and how cost data flows through operations
ERP proficiency — hands-on experience in NetSuite or a comparable enterprise system; comfortable building and maintaining account structures, workflows, and reconciliation processes
Data fluency — you can write SQL, navigate Tableau, Looker, or similar BI tools, and you're not reliant on someone else to pull your own analysis
TMS and systems partnership experience — you've worked alongside Product or Engineering teams to define accounting requirements, validate data pipelines, or serve as a business owner on a TMS or internal finance system build
Strong command of GAAP revenue recognition and accrual accounting
Excellent cross-functional communication — you translate between accountants, operators and engineers without losing precision on either side
Preferred
CPA or active CPA candidate
Experience with M&A transactions and integrating acquired business processes and accounting systems into a consolidated environment
