Senior Accounting Manager

About the role

The Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to lead and manage the Accounting Program, including Payroll and Accounts Receivable units. This role requires a CPA certification and three years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for the Accounting Program
  • Assist the Comptroller with financial management and reporting, including policy implementation and compliance with rules and statutes
  • Assign, direct, and evaluate special projects and studies
  • Respond to inquiries related to program processes, providing advice and guidance to management and staff
  • Attend and participate in meetings regarding payroll, accounts receivable, and other confidential matters
  • Stay current on new developments in financial and accounting processes through continuing education
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned

Requirements

  • Four years of college with coursework in accounting, financial management, or related fields
  • Three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in accounting or financial management
  • Three years of professional supervisory experience in a large organization
  • Three years of professional experience building complex Excel solutions for fiscal data
  • Two years of professional experience supervising professional accounting/fiscal staff
  • Two years of professional experience designing and producing comprehensive reports to identify statutory/policy violations
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a master's degree in accounting, finance, or related field

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the State of Illinois Pay Plan and Personnel Code, Rules, and Position Classification Plan
  • Familiarity with personnel classification and compensation systems
  • Experience with payroll and timekeeping applications/systems
  • Ability to analyze administrative programs and processes, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

Pay

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule, typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
