SENIOR ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
About the role
This position works with the Administrative Services Division (ASD) of the Department of Administration, located in Carson City. The division serves as the central fiscal agent of 100+ budget accounts across a variety of State agencies. The division also fiscally manages the State’s Capital Improvement Projects (CIP).
Responsibilities
- Review and code expense documents and verify charges and credits to the appropriate coding for entry.
- Research past due balances and late charges.
- Process and code cash receipts, billings, and A/R.
- Work with vendors to resolve invoice payment issues.
- Affords the Accountant Technician by notifying them of insufficient funds or authority to process payments.
- Post payments to the tracking logs and perform regular reconciliations.
- Process payments requiring special handling.
- Serve as a liaison between Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable working closely with the divisions Budget Analysts.
- Accounting Assistants supervise and participate in the performance of clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Requirements
- Three or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties and graduation from high school or equivalent education.
Qualifications
Knowledge Of processing agency accounting documents; budgeting and funding; recording, tracking, organizing, and reporting data.Bookkeeping methods and procedures related to monitoring contracts and grant spending. Ability To compile and interpret data, prepare reports and recommendations; understand legal contracts and grants.Plan, implement, and monitor clerical accounting methods and procedures; explain guidelines, policies, and procedures.Review accounts documents prepared by others; reconcile accounts using automated systems.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness: Eligible due to public sector employment.
Longevity Payments Eligibility: Employees who have received a performance rating of “standard” or better and have completed eight (8) or more years of continuous service are eligible for longevity pay. Additional benefits may apply to employees covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), depending on their designated bargaining unit.
