Senior Accountant, International
Job Summary
The Senior Accountant – International Accounting is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the company’s international subsidiaries across multiple jurisdictions. This role supports the global accounting function by ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, foreign currency accounting, intercompany accounting, and compliance with both U.S. GAAP and applicable local requirements.
About the Role
This role serves as the primary internal liaison with the company’s outsourced international accounting service provider and is responsible for overseeing and reviewing the provider’s work to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of monthly accounting and statutory compliance activities. The role manages accounting processes for international subsidiaries located in various countries, including Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, with anticipated expansion into additional Latin American jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
- Manage the monthly accounting process for international subsidiaries across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the outsourced international accounting service provider, coordinating activities and monitoring performance.
- Review accounting work prepared by the outsourced provider, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, and compliance filings.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of international accounting records in accordance with U.S. GAAP and local statutory requirements.
- Prepare and record foreign currency translation adjustments in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Support the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements and related schedules.
- Manage intercompany transactions between international subsidiaries and the parent company.
- Prepare and review intercompany reconciliations and elimination entries during the close process.
- Carefully coordinate with internal accounting teams to ensure accurate recording and settlement of intercompany balances.
- Maintain and track statutory filing requirements, corporate registrations, licenses, and other regulatory obligations across international jurisdictions.
- Coordinate with the outsourced provider to ensure timely completion of local statutory financial statements, corporate filings, and other compliance requirements.
- Maintain organized documentation of compliance activities and regulatory filings.
- Support international statutory audits by coordinating requests between external auditors, the outsourced provider, and internal accounting teams.
- Aid in the preparation and organization of audit support documentation.
- Collaborate with tax advisors and internal tax teams to support international corporate income tax and VAT compliance.
- Support international expansion by assisting with accounting setup for newly formed international subsidiaries, including chart of accounts structure, accounting processes, and reporting procedures.
- Assist with global close activities and special projects as assigned by the Director of Accounting.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Minimum of 4–7 years of accounting experience, preferably including international accounting exposure.
- Experience supporting multi-entity accounting environments.
- Experience working with international subsidiaries or multinational organizations.
- Experience with foreign currency accounting and translation.
- Experience with monthly close processes and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting principles.
- Experience working with outsourced accounting service providers or shared service environments is preferred.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
Qualifications
- Preferred location: Phoenix, AZ.
- Preferred experience: Experience supporting global consolidations, exposure to local statutory reporting requirements and international compliance coordination, experience supporting international audits or tax compliance (corporate income tax or VAT).
- CPA or CPA candidate is preferred.
