Senior Accountant Finance Lead

Core Responsibilities
- Execute the monthly accounting close from start to finish, including account reconciliations
- Prepare and post all journal entries
- Manage restricted grant allocations
- Oversee AR and AP processing and invoicing
- Complete quarterly government grant reporting and reimbursement requirements
- Maintain general ledger integrity
- Maintain tracking and reporting for all public and private grants
- Create cash-flow projections for 3-4 months in advance
- Execute, oversee, and approve bi-weekly payroll
- Assess, maintain, and strengthen internal financial controls and accounting procedures to ensure compliance and risk mitigation
- Experience in supporting annual financial statement audits
- Manage the fixed asset ledger, tracking additions, disposals, and monthly depreciation
- Assist with the preparation and filing of annual tax returns (IRS Form 990, NYS CHAR500) and other regulatory compliance filings
- Preparation of audit schedules, board-level financial reports, grant budgets/reports, and ad hoc financial analyses and other related projects as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- 7+ years of nonprofit accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience with nonprofit revenue recognition, including restricted contributions, conditional grants, and government funding
- Experience with functional expense allocation methodologies and public grant compliance requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data clearly to non-financial staff and leadership
- Strong attention to data accuracy and financial control integrity
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, including QuickBooks Projects and MS Excel
- Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Drive
- Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus
- CPA candidate is a plus, but not required.
Additional Details
- Salary range $100- $115K annually
- Full-time- 35-hour with a 2-day in-person work week and 3 days remote work week
- Flexible hours, but must have a predetermined overlap with the Executive Director for purposes of communication, coordination, and training and with the Sr Manager of Administration and Finance
