Senior Accountant Development Accounting
What You Will Do
- Aids in accounting activities for new real estate development project closings, including reviewing partnership agreements, loan documents, purchase and sale agreements, guarantees, and closing statements.
- Collaborates with the development team to prepare and manage construction loan draws, capital calls, and related budget-to-actual analysis to support project funding requirements.
- Serves as a point of contact for auditors for documentation, support, and detailed schedules.
- Maintains positive, collaborative, and successful relationships with developers, partners, lenders, and vendors regarding funding, payments, contracts, invoicing, and reporting.
- Reviews complex debt, equity, guarantee, and ownership structures to ensure proper accounting treatment and corporate reporting compliance.
- Prepares and assists in the review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for corporate accounting, lenders, joint venture partners, and management.
- Assists in accounting for complex real estate transactions, including ownership modifications, development-to-operations transitions, hypothetical liquidation analysis, and property dispositions.
- Serves as a strategic advisor to management by providing financial analysis, identifying risks, and developing creative solutions for project and accounting-related issues.
- Maintains a drive towards process improvement, compliance, and reporting consistency across the development portfolio.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting required.
- 4-6 years of accounting experience, preferably corporate accounting, and reporting required.
- Experience with real estate development or property management, including construction draws, budgets, and contracts required.
- Experience with Workday and/or other large ERP systems preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formula knowledge and experience with PivotTables and lookup functions required.
- Must be able to work within specified deadlines and prioritize time effectively.
- Ability to identify problems, collect and analyze data, and draw logical conclusions.
- Ability to multitask and work as part of a team to meet team goals in addition to individual responsibilities.
- Strong analytical and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications. Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel is required.
- Requires a detail-oriented, independent thinker who can be a part of a team and demonstrate strong attention to detail, and demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and industry professionals.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) upon hire preferred.
