Senior Accountant

Description

Responsible work in operating a drawbridge. Responsible for raising a drawbridge to allow water traffic to pass without creating motor vehicle tie ups. Employees must be familiar with the safe operation of the bridge equipment including lift console, signal lights, span lines and gates. Work is performed independently with general supervision.

• Raises and lowers bridge to allow passage of high marine traffic to include; sailboats, yachts and shrimp boats.
• Sounds warning siren, flashes warning lights and drops gates; unlocks spans.
• Records all openings of drawbridge including; date, time, vessel type, name and direction.
• Completes tender operator report daily to include the condition of the building, lights, wind indicators and weather conditions.
• Operates and monitors marine radio; answers calls from boat operators, Coast Guard, or other law enforcement agencies.
• Cheks auxiliary motor each week for use in the event of power failure; calls in needed repairs.
• Keeps bridge house and bridge free of debris.
• Assists in training new bridge tenders in bridge operations.

Education, Experience, Licensing

• Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the 10th grade.
• Experience in bridge operation, maintenance and repair is preferred.
• A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Physical Requirements

• Requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time, kneel, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, lift up to 50lbs.
• Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

Supplemental Information

• Knowledge of drawbridge and safety equipment operation.
• Some knowledge of bridge electrical and mechanical operations.
• Ability to operate marine radio.
• Ability to communicate effectively with boat operators.

Work Days and Hours

Work Days and Hours: Saturday through Tuesday, 2:00pm to 10:00pm

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
