Senior Accountant
About the role
Midwest Express Clinic is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance team. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role leads month-end close activities, prepares accurate financial reporting, and supports budgeting and forecasting while ensuring compliance with GAAP and healthcare accounting standards. The ideal candidate partners closely with Finance, Payroll, Revenue Cycle, Clinical Operations, HR, and Executive Leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and account analyses
- Lead assigned portions of the month-end and year-end close process while meeting established deadlines
- Research and resolve account discrepancies and unusual financial variances
- Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers for financial reporting
- Analyze financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Aid in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Prepare financial analyses and reports for senior leadership
- Maintain key balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Support special projects and ad hoc financial analyses
- Partner with Revenue Cycle, Billing, and Clinical Operations to ensure accurate recording of healthcare revenue
- Support reconciliation of insurance reimbursements and revenue recognition processes
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records
- Aid in bi-weekly payroll review, reconciliations, and financial analysis
- Monitor payroll-related general ledger activity
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as needed
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve financial workflows and internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal accounting policies, and regulatory requirements
- Prepare documentation for internal and external audits
- Aid in annual financial audits and tax-related requests
- Maintain strong internal controls and identify opportunities for process improvement
- Support implementation of accounting process improvements and automation initiatives
- Participate in finance projects related to company growth and acquisitions
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, data analysis)
- Experience preparing financial statements and account reconciliations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments
Qualifications
- CPA certification or active pursuit of CPA
- Healthcare industry accounting experience
- Experience with ERP or accounting systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms
- Experience supporting audits and financial planning activities
- Experience in a multi-site or high-growth organization

The expected salary range for this position is $80,000–$100,000, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
