A well-established mission-driven nonprofit organization in the Indianapolis market seeks a Senior Accountant to support complex fund accounting, financial reporting, and operational accounting functions within a collaborative and community-focused environment.

Job Details

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Accountant to join our fast-paced Accounting and Finance team. This is a permanent position with ample opportunities for professional growth and development. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of our accounting operations. This includes financial reporting, tax planning, budgeting and forecasting, and financial analysis. The role requires a high level of competence in Excel and a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations. The Senior Accountant will play a pivotal role in maintaining the financial health of our organization, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and driving profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of our accounting department including daily operations, financial reporting, tax planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash.
  • Conduct regular ledger maintenance and reconciliation activities.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Cook with external auditors and manage internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and professional standards.
  • Provide leadership and support to accounts receivable and accounts payable departments.
  • Manage the preparation of payroll for personnel.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior members of the finance team.
  • Implement and monitor the company's financial policies and procedures.
  • Analyze complex financial data and provide accurate financial recommendations to the management.
  • Participate in strategic planning, fraud prevention, and budget development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field & CPA
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in a senior role.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with other finance-specific software.
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
